Rega Aura MC Phono Preamplifier

Rega Aura MC Phono Preamplifier

Rega Aura MC

Reference Moving Coil Phono Preamplifier

The Aura MC is the culmination of decades of electronic design development. A fully adjustable, three-stage, all-symmetrical pre-amplifier designed purely to extract the very best performance from your moving coil cartridge and vinyl playback system. If you are a vinyl connoisseur, the Aura MC is an absolute must for demonstration.

Key Features

Three-Stage Design
All-symmetrical circuit topology
Fully Adjustable
Compatible with all low-output MC cartridges
Ultra-Low Noise FETs
Linear Systems matched & graded pairs
Lifetime Warranty
Against manufacture defects

Design Innovation

Built into a completely re-designed custom case, the Aura is dedicated exclusively to moving coil cartridges with zero compromises. Every superfluous function has been eliminated to keep the signal path pure. Polypropylene capacitors are used throughout, with 1% tolerance types in the RIAA EQ stages. The power supply voltage runs 60% higher than typically found in such a pre-amplifier, maximising headroom. Gain, Mute and Mono switching is implemented via high-quality relays.

Circuit Architecture

Stage 1 — Input

Symmetrical, complementary Class A amplifier using parallel-connected ultra-low noise FET transistors in a symmetrical compound pair. No bias current flows in the cartridge coil, preserving delicate magnetic geometry. No coupling components between cartridge output and FET input. Drives the passive high-frequency RIAA equalisation stage.

Stage 2 — RIAA

Symmetrical, Class A differential amplifier with a common base driver stage. Also serves as the active amplifier in the low-frequency part of the RIAA equalisation stage.

Stage 3 — Output

Inverts the signal to provide the balanced output alongside the Stage 2 output. Uses the same circuit topology as Stage 2. Each stage has its own localised power supply and LED-referenced current generators.
